There are three ways to attack an enemy:
-
Right-click on them to initiate combat.
-
Left-click on them to target them and then press ~ or Z to initiate combat.
-
Press Tab to target an enemy and then press ~ or Z to initiate combat.
After combat has ended, you can loot their body using any of the exact same commands as you used to attack them.
Enemy Aggro
"Aggro" is the term used to describe a computer-controlled enemy's decision to target one player, instead of another player. In other words, if two people are fighting a dragon, it will have to select one to focus its attacks on. That player has the dragon's aggro.
An enemy's "aggro radius" refers to how close you can get to an enemy before it will attack you. If you step within an enemy's aggro radius, you had better be prepared to fight it or run away! Some abilities, such as the Elves' racial ability, will effectively reduce an enemy's aggro radius, allowing them to get close without being attacked.
* Tip: Lower-level enemies may be more docile and might not have an aggro radius. This means that they will not attack you unless you attack first.
Generating Threat
If multiple adventurers are engaged in combat with an enemy, the enemy's aggro will swap to whomever is causing the most "threat" to it at any given time. Threat is accumulated as players deal damage to the creature as well as whenever they heal their party members.
If a Mystic in light armor and a Warrior in heavy armor are fighting a dragon, it is logically safer for the Warrior to be taking most of the damage. Therefore, the Mystic must be careful not to create a larger threat against that target than the Warrior does. Fortunately for the Mystic, Warriors have skills to generate threat against targets, but if the Mystic is too reckless and deals too much damage to the dragon, he or she could gain the creature's attention. And when you wear light armor, you do NOT want a dragon to set its sights on you...
PvP Combat
Player-versus-player combat is bound to happen when nations are at war with each other. Citizens of Elerd are safe within their nation, so long as they do not attack first. The same is true for citizens of Rogwel. However, neither side is safe in neutral continents, such as Riall.
When you kill an opposing player in combat, you will be awarded a Soul Crystal. These have a number of immediate uses, such as feeding to your pet for EXP, paying for item alterations, etc. However, they are also used in a number of quests and recipes.
* Tip: PvP combat also helps you accumulate Prestige, which is used to determine your PvP rank. Visit Quartermasters Lo and Po to purchase Prestige items for your rank.
