The Spirit World's Influence
After the world was shattered, the inhabitants of Elerd vowed never again to become solely reliant on steam-powered technology for their way of life. However, they were unsure of which direction to take in rebuilding society until the Elves, whose large population gave them a powerful influence over the citizens of Elerd, began experimenting in the ancient magical arts their ancestors had once practiced.
Many of these practices had been lost long ago. With the advent of Neo Steam technology in the old world, many Elves had forsaken their ancient ways to live in a society governed by science. However, now, generations after the shattering, the Elves began to return to magic, and the rest of Elerd embraced its unlimited potential as a safer alternative to steam technology.
Because of the Elves' strong connection with the spirit world, they were able to help usher the nation out of the dark ages much earlier than most other societies. The citizens of Elerd tried to reach out to Rogwel, still in its early monarchy stages, but their efforts were in vain. The citizens of Rogwel were stubborn and insisted that to pursue any way of life other than a technological one would be unsuccessful.
Elerd continued to increase its studies of the spirit world, and its citizens began to worship the sacred Golden Dragon, Armankase, a benevolent deity who they believe watches over Elerd and protects its people. The wisest and most gifted students of magic rose through the ranks of priesthood to become the High Priests, and collectively, they became the rulers of Elerd, guiding the nation in accordance with Armankase's wishes.
When the Maestros rejoined the rest of the world, the majority of them emigrated to Rogwel, but a small handful traveled to Elerd instead. They were wary of building another society mired in pure science, and they sought a new way of life. They found what they were looking for in Elerd. The Maestros began to embrace the religion of Elerd and worked to find ways to fuse magic with technology. This helped the nation's economy tremendously, and with Armankase's blessing, the citizens of Elerd soon found themselves enjoying many of the same luxuries and conveniences of the old world, only safer and more amenable to the concerns of the spirit world.
