The World's Energy Source
Neo Steam

Before the shattering of the land, the citizens of Chrysalis learned to harness Neo Steam. This gaseous resource became an integral part of society, giving life to all manner of machinery, from small hand tools to giant vehicles and factories. It reshaped the world and brought civilization into an era of peace and prosperity.

Harvesting Neo Steam can be a difficult procedure. It is found in nature only in a crystallized form known as Energy Stones. These stones are only useable once they have been sublimated into a gaseous state. However, gaseous Neo Steam is highly volatile and dangerous to store or transport. Therefore, the ancient Maestros devised a network of receivers and transmitters to safely transfer Neo Steam from one location to another. Once there, it would be pressurized into a liquid and stored in tanks. Then, when it was ready to be used, personal steam tanks would depressurize it and return it to its useable, gaseous form.

When the King banished the Maestros, fearing they would become too powerful and overthrow him, the rest of civilization continued harvesting Neo Steam at an alarming rate. Without the Maestros there to oversee Neo Steam consumption, the balance of the world began to teeter, until one day, the very land itself was torn apart in a massive earthquake.

Following the great cataclysm, many inventions were lost, civilization crumbled, and the earth began to repair itself from the overuse of Neo Steam. Centuries passed, and as the fledgling nations of Elerd and Rogwel began to rise, they uncovered many ancient machines. Unable to operate them, they treated them as useless relics from a lost age.

Then, one day, the new Maestros uncovered ancient documents about Energy Stones and how to harness Neo Steam from them. There was a renaissance across the entirety of Chrysalis, and both nations began harvesting Energy Stones once more. When there were no more to be found, they set their sights on other continents. Soon both nations were sending engineers to Rope Isle, a mysterious land filled with Energy Stones, and it was not long before they were also sending regiments of armed soldiers there to protect their interests. A cold war had begun.

In time, blood was shed, and the two nations realized they could no longer harvest Energy Stones in peace. From that point forward, Rogwel and Elerd have been steadily increasing their armies and producing powerful, mechanized weapons and vehicles. And in a bitter irony, the same resource that helped shatter the land is now the fuel for a war that threatens to destroy civilization once and for all...
