The Land of Riall

While designing the perfect hunting grounds, Lord Jarit was inspired by the lay of the land and chose to import only species which would be most suitable for the surroundings. He worked night and day and spared no expense to create the ideal hunting grounds for adventurers:

Jarit's Garden
Neo Steam

Jarit's Garden, situated in the backyard of his villa, was once a giant hedge maze littered with thousands of flowers. Jarit hired a team of gardeners to tend the grounds daily and ensure that it looked breathtaking at all times, from all angles. The most important (and perhaps oddest) demand made by Jarit was that every color imaginable be present somewhere in the garden. He would often don lavish, multi-colored robes and stroll through the grounds to test that his gardeners were doing their job!

However, as much pride as Jarit took in his garden, when he had the idea to reinvent the island as an attraction for adventurers, he ordered the entire grove to be cut down without a second thought! Always a man who follows his whims, Jarit has never expressed any amount of regret or nostalgia for the resplendent garden that was once his most prized possession...

The Mercenary Outpost
Neo Steam

Of all the hunting grounds on Riall, Jarit's acute attention to detail and firm commitment to authenticity are most evident here. He traveled the globe in search of a sufficient band of malcontents to populate his Mercenary Outpost, and when he found them, he paid them very handsomely to relocate their base of operations. He even remodeled that part of the island after their old hideout, importing much of their original lumber and rather grim decor. Jarit desperately wanted to recreate the thrill of being ambushed by highway ruffians as well as allow adventurers the opportunity to be on the offensive and actually raid a mercenary camp, and to help ensure that the dangers are as real as possible, the only instructions he gave to the group were to kill all adventurers on sight.

The mercenaries, previously known as Rope Isle's Crimson Fang, were never fully notified that Riall was intended to be a novelty attraction. Initially, they fell into their old habits of capturing adventurers and attempting to ransom them back, but Jarit had to intercede and remind them that kidnapping is a breach of contract. After many apologies, the mercenaries quickly stopped trying to capture their opponents and have resumed their contractual obligation of brutal, merciless violence.

The Ancient Factory
Neo Steam

Since the island's formation, there had always been a factory. No one had ever known what it was used for in the old world or if it was still functioning or not... But it stood there all the same: unused and unexplored. The residents of Riall were largely superstitious of machinery, and fearing it might contain something diabolical inside, they learned to ignore it and go on with their lives. Nevertheless, Lord Jarit, always an exemplar of fashion and taste, always felt it was an unsightly structure. All function, no form. He longed to dress it up in brighter colors and add shutters on the windows, but even he was afraid of it...

Years later, Jarit finally mustered up the courage to enter the factory, and to his surprise, he found that all the robotic workers inside were still active! Hoping to turn the factory into a hunting ground, he tried to goad the machines into fighting him, but they would not. They cared only about their work and all but ignored his presence. Jarit was stumped. He locked himself in his villa for days, trying to find a solution. At last, he knew his only course of action would be to tear down the entire factory! He rationalized that doing so would anger the robots and provide the proper motivation needed to turn them into the perfect automated assassins. And in an attempt to be responsible and recycle, he even used some of the leftover scrap metal to construct a fighting pit in the center of town. (The remaining scrap metal was, of course, sold to the Crom for a very nice profit...)

The Dimensional Rift
Neo Steam

Due to Riall's location on the far side of the world, early residents of the island were never entirely certain if other continents even existed. For generations, the most intellectual minds of Riall would debate this point heatedly, sometimes to the verge of violence. It was Lord Jarit, then in his teens, who put his foot down and sagely ordered that this topic was no longer allowed to be debated in public. He then (slightly less sagely) rationalized that if Riall truly is alone in the world, then it is imperative that a gateway to another dimension be constructed so that the citizens of Riall could have a new society to interact with!

Every scholar on the island spent the next decade researching portals and other mysteries of the universe. At last, they opened a gateway to a fiery dimension filled with giant beasts and streams of molten lava! When they showed the fruits of their labor to Jarit, witnesses claim he took one step inside, then quickly backed out and ordered the rift be sealed up forever. It was only later, when he redesigned the entire island, that Jarit finally found a use for this dimensional anomaly...
