The charred landscape of Flame Basin was once a rugged forest known as the Sylverland. Even before the shattering, when most citizens of the world gave little heed to environmental concerns, the Sylverland was a protected ecosystem, housing thousands of species of plant and animal life. Not long after the industrial boom, the forest's hearty sylverpines and jade-leaf oaks were highly sought after by loggers, and laws were established to protect the Sylverland's lush ecosystem.

Today, there are no more trees, the streams have dried up, and birdsongs no longer fill the air. The Sylverland has fallen prey to the wrath of the Elder Kroness, who has scorched the land and destroyed every last shred of beauty that once thrived here.

Perhaps one day, generations in the future, the Sylverland will return again, for it is often said that life is cyclical and that death only serves to usher in new beginnings...

In the center of Flame Basin lurks the aberrant Subject M-277. This exceedingly fierce Id was bioengineered by the Crom after the Warbots turned on them. While their original intent was to produce a race of sentient creatures to protect them from the dangers of Rope Isle, they soon abandoned this research once they found that, like Subject M-277, none of their creations could be trained or domesticated. They set him loose in Flame Basin, hoping he would never return to terrorize their colonies.

Although they have given up these experiments, the equipment and DNA records still exist. For a small fee, the Crom can be convinced to recreate some of these small-scale cloning experiments for brave adventurers looking for a different kind of danger to face...
