The Realm of Nature
Long before the world was shattered and civilization was hurled into ruin, there were tribes who did not embrace the discovery of Neo Steam and all the technological advancements that accompanied it. The Lyell, Tarune, and Lupine, in particular, feared it would upset the balance of the world, and they were joined by small groups of Elves and Humans who watched as others of their kind became dangerously reliant on the conveniences of Neo Steam.
These tribes lived apart from the rest of society, in a region known as Taxnia, where they worshipped nature and learned to value physical strength and hard work. They lived in tribal communities, each ruled by a Totem Master, who was said to have powerful kinship with the earth, and all the tribes shared an equal portion of the land around a common hallowed ground: the Mother Tree.
When the earthquake struck Chrysalis, the rest of civilization was torn apart and fell into a dark age. However, the Mother Tree's vast roots helped keep Taxnia whole, and the tribal societies there survived the shattering virtually unscathed. Nevertheless, separated from the rest of the world on their small island, they soon realized that the only way to stay alive was to unite the tribes and form the Taxn Alliance.
For centuries after the shattering, the Taxn Alliance prospered. However, even with the strong bonds between the tribes, food and resources became scarce, and their society continued to decline. Dissention soon arose over whether or not it would be wise to ally with the newly budding nations of Elerd and Rogwel. The Tarune were captivated by Elerd's concentration on the magical arts. They felt that learning to harness magic could greatly increase the Taxn Alliance's chances of survival while still not endangering the land. Meanwhile, the Lupine felt that Rogwel's superior technology could better serve the tribes, provided it was handled responsibly.
In time, the Tarune and Lupine tribes left the island, hoping to one day return with the secrets of how to restore the Taxn Alliance to its former days of prosperity and self-reliance. However, as the years passed, those left behind began to doubt that their brothers would ever return...
It is now up to the Lyell and the Taxn Humans to leave their homeland, travel to one of the two rival nations, and discover a way to one day rebuild the Taxn Alliance.
